Pledge to the Christian Flag. Ready. Begin

August 27th rolls around and Kody and I head out the door for his first day of school. We get there really early and Kody is giving me the third degree about why we are there already. I explain to him that good moms take pictures of their kids on the first day of school, and I intend to be a good mom today. Just a few snap shots. Promise. Nothing too embarrassing. We get out of the car, get the camera out, and get positioned in front of the ivy by the Grace Brethren sign. On the count of three. 1....2....sna- nothing. Duh! You have to turn the camera on. Okay, lets try this again. 1....2...sna-nothing. What is going on!?!? Battery is dead. I look at Kody who's laughing at me still standing by the ivy. Remember all that talk about being a good Mom I said to you earlier Kody? Yes. Well, good mom's take pictures of their kids AFTER school too!

These pictures might be a little late, but seriously- he wears a uniform to school. It's always the same thing. So here's my 2nd grader on his 4th day of school!

He is such a good student and is anxious to learn more this year. I am proud of him for his decision to always study hard and make school a priority. We have been so blessed to be able to keep him at Grace. It is a school that not only holds you to the highest standards academically but also spiritually. I am thankful for his teachers who do not just teach him the basic ABC's, but teach him how to be a better person. How to love God with all your heart and really strive to be Christlike.

This weekend was spent together as a family. We had hoped to go to the beach or something fun like that- but Lennix woke up with a fever, (darn teeth!) so we ditched any plans and stayed home. What we thought was going to be just another boring weekend- was actually really fun. I got to go for my usual Saturday morning run a little later than usual thanks to Jared being home, and then Jared and Kody went to Oakridge to get some laps in at the pool. After that, Jared and Steve L. took the kids to see the movie Fly me to The Moon in 3-d while Lennix and I stayed home and took a nap. After they got home, we jumped on our skateboards and headed to the park for some more family time. Who knew you could work up such a sweat on a skateboard!?!?

After the park we met up with the Lukes for some dinner at Campos. Great food shared with even better company. The kids all did really well at dinner (except for Kody trying to choke out Zoe and Lennix taking her tank top off and wearing it as a shrug) but we were looking forward to a quiet night after such a crazy day.

This last picture was taken this morning. As I was pulling my camera out to download them onto the computer, Lennix insisted on me taking her photo. I love her messy hair and the "Jared like" expression she has on her face. If you look closely, you can see the red mark on her forehead she got from bumping into our kitchen table at 2:00 in the morning. Or maybe it was when she woke up at 2:30 am. Or 3:05 am. Yes, she started getting up in the middle of the night for no apparent reason. HELP! I'm just hoping you're all right and this is just a phase! Because I don't know how much more I can take!!

I'm the worst mom in the world, but I can't function without sleep. When Sam started doing that kind of thing at that age, we turned his doorknob around so we could lock him in. We kept a monitor in his room, way up high, so he couldn't turn it off, so we could tell when/if he needed us. His light is on a ceiling fan so I had to turn it off by pulling on the chain or he would turn on the light and party for a few hours - singing, dancing, jumping on the bed. He actually still does that but he's Pavlovian trained so he doesn't try to get out. We don't lock it now that he's 5. I have a few friends with "energetic" children who have done the same thing and it has worked well. Just not the P.C. approach. Hope you find something you all can live with!

P.S. I'm sure you've already done this...but we made sure all the furniture was bolted to the wall and nothing he could hang/choke himself on in the room. (just saying that so people don't think i truly am the world's most selfish mom.)

Landon did that at that age too! Hey, I got a crib net..he couldn't get out and it kept him safe in the crib.

Shannon, Your blog is great. I am a little slow with new technology, but I finally started a blog as well. Take a peek when you have time http://seayusrun.blogspot.com/. Your little girl is so cute. This whole blog thing is pretty cool because I am the worst at trying to keep up with everyone.

Your kids are so cute and you're a darling mom. It was good to see you at Erin's baptism. You're so sweet to the family and and I know they all appreciate it.
